| Term | What it means |

| PL | Post-larvae — the young shrimp you stock into ponds |
| SPF | Specific pathogen free — seed certified free of listed diseases |
| SPT | Specific pathogen tolerant — seed bred to tolerate disease |
| FCR | Feed conversion ratio — kg of feed to produce 1 kg of shrimp |
| DO | Dissolved oxygen — oxygen in the water that shrimp breathe |
| TAN | Total ammonia nitrogen — waste from feed; toxic at high levels |
| WSSV | White spot syndrome virus — a deadly shrimp virus |
| EHP | Enterocytozoon hepatopenaei — a parasite that stunts growth |
| BMP | Better management practices — official good-practice guidelines |
| ETS | Effluent treatment system — treats outgoing farm water |
| PHT | Pre-harvest testing — residue/disease test before harvest (EU) |
| CRZ | Coastal Regulation Zone — regulated coastal land |
| RAS | Recirculating aquaculture system — water reuse farming |
| Biofloc | System that grows beneficial microbes to treat water and feed shrimp |

Checklists
Pre-stocking checklist
- CAA registration valid and vannamei permission in place
- Pond dried, limed and prepared
- Water quality tested and stable
- Certified seed ordered from an authorized hatchery
- Biosecurity measures in place (fencing, netting, disinfection)
- Aerators and backup power working
Daily monitoring checklist
- Dawn DO and temperature recorded
- pH, salinity and water colour checked
- Feeding response observed and feed adjusted
- Shrimp health — appetite, colour, behaviour
- Record book updated

Only buy seed from CAA-authorized hatcheries. The official list is published by CAA and updated regularly — always use the current list.
